Picking a base as a digital nomad comes down to four numbers: what a month costs, how fast the Wi-Fi is, whether the visa lets you stay, and how many hours you overlap with your clients. We pulled the live figures from Nomads.com (the site formerly called Nomad List) and checked the visa rules against 2026 sources. Here are eight cities that still make sense in 2026, with the honest downside for each.
The short version
- Best value: Bangkok ($1,658 a month, 5-year visa option).
- Best in Europe: Lisbon for community, Valencia for beach life.
- Best for US clients: Mexico City and Medellín (US time zones).
- Easiest visa: Tbilisi, with up to a year visa-free for many passports.

*Nomads.com figures on 13 October 2026. Its costs assume a furnished short-term flat and a nomad lifestyle, so long-stay renters often spend less; its Wi-Fi speeds are crowd-tested in cafés and flats.

Why go: Beach, bike lanes and big-city life for noticeably less than Barcelona or Madrid. The catch: August is very hot, and Spanish paperwork and tax residency rules take time.

$1,658 a month (Nomads.com). Wi-Fi 33 Mbps (Nomads.com).
VISA FOR REMOTE WORKERS
Destination Thailand Visa (DTV): 500,000 baht in savings, valid 5 years, up to 180 days per entry (extendable once), 10,000 baht fee.

4. Canggu, Bali
COST & WI-FI
$3,381 a month (Nomads.com). Wi-Fi 25 Mbps (Nomads.com).
VISA FOR REMOTE WORKERS
E33G remote worker visa: $60,000 a year in foreign income plus $2,000 in the bank, valid 1 year.

Why go: Surf in the morning, coworking in the afternoon, and the liveliest nomad social scene in Asia. The catch: Traffic and overdevelopment; reviewers on Nomads.com score it far lower than its popularity.
5. Mexico City, Mexico
COST & WI-FI
$3,229 a month (Nomads.com). Wi-Fi 21 Mbps (Nomads.com).
VISA FOR REMOTE WORKERS

Why go: Some of the best food on the planet and the same working hours as US clients. The catch: Safety varies a lot by neighbourhood, and the residency income bar is high.

$2,504 a month (Nomads.com). Wi-Fi 13 Mbps (Nomads.com).
VISA FOR REMOTE WORKERS
Digital nomad visa (type V): income of 3× the Colombian minimum wage (about COP 5.25 million a month), up to 2 years.

Why go: Spring-like weather all year and the lowest published nomad-visa income requirement on this list. The catch: Petty crime and dating-app scams; Nomads.com flags safety.
7. Buenos Aires, Argentina
COST & WI-FI
$3,476 a month (Nomads.com). Wi-Fi 14 Mbps (Nomads.com).
VISA FOR REMOTE WORKERS
Digital nomad residence for 180 days, extendable; no official income minimum has been published.

Why go: European-style cafés and nightlife with working hours close to the US East Coast. The catch: Prices swing with inflation and the exchange rate, so budgets go out of date fast.
8. Tbilisi, Georgia
COST & WI-FI
$2,404 a month (Nomads.com). Wi-Fi 16 Mbps (Nomads.com).
VISA FOR REMOTE WORKERS
No nomad visa needed for many nationalities: up to 365 days visa-free. New 2026 work-permit rules make remote work for foreign clients a grey area, so check first.

Why go: The easiest entry on the list, wine, mountains and low costs. The catch: Slower internet and some legal uncertainty after the 2026 rule changes.
Before you book: the nomad checklist
- ☐ Check the visa rule for your passport on the government site, not a blog. Income thresholds change every year.
- ☐ Get a travel eSIM before you land so you can work from the taxi. See our eSIM vs roaming guide.
- ☐ Book the first two weeks only, then find a monthly flat locally. Monthly rates are usually far cheaper than nightly ones.
- ☐ Ask hosts for a speed-test screenshot before you pay for a long stay.
- ☐ Keep a backup: a hotspot plan on your eSIM and a coworking day pass nearby.
