Amazon’s Black Friday 2026 dates aren’t announced yet, but if recent years are a guide it will start about a week early and run to Cyber Monday (30 November). Thousands of items will show a big red percentage. Many are real, some are not. Here are seven checks that take less than a minute.

- Use a price-history tool, check who the seller is, and compare with other stores.
7 ways to spot a fake Amazon discount
- Check the price history. Free tools such as Keepa and CamelCamelCamel show what an item cost over the past months. If the “was” price never actually existed, the discount isn’t real.
- Read the reference price label. Amazon shows what the percentage is based on (for example “List Price” or “Typical price”). A list price nobody pays makes any discount look huge.
- Look at “Ships from” and “Sold by”. The same product can be sold by Amazon or by a third-party seller with different prices, returns and quality.
- Watch out for lookalike brands. Unknown brands with hundreds of near-identical five-star reviews deserve a closer look.
- Compare the model number. Black Friday versions of TVs and laptops sometimes have a slightly different model number and weaker specs.
- Check other stores. Lenovo, Reolink or Dreame may beat Amazon on their own sites with a code.
- Check the return window. Amazon has offered extended holiday returns in past years; check the window on your order before you buy.
