Trip.com almost never has a public promo code that works for everyone. What it does have is a rewards currency, Trip Coins, that quietly knocks a few percent off every booking if you use it properly. This guide puts the rules in one place: what a coin is worth, how many you earn, how the member tiers multiply them and when they expire.
Key takeaways
- 100 Trip Coins are worth US$1 at checkout, and you can use them for part of a booking.
- You earn about 15 coins per US$100 on flights and about 50 per US$100 on hotels. Coins arrive after the trip is completed.
- Member tiers add 20% (Gold) up to 200% (Black Diamond) more coins on eligible bookings.
- Coins from bookings expire after 18 months and coins from reviews after 6 months.
1. What a Trip Coin is worth
At checkout, 100 Trip Coins = US$1. Coins are applied in the payment step, in the app or on the website, and they can be combined with other discounts. You can pay part of a booking with coins and the rest with your card; you do not need enough coins to cover the whole price.
The maximum number of coins you can use on one order can vary with Trip.com promotions, so the checkout page is the final word on how much comes off.
2. How many coins a booking earns
Earning rates differ by product. As a rule of thumb from Trip.com’s own rewards pages:
- Flights: about 15 coins per US$100 spent (roughly 0.15% back).
- Hotels and gift cards: about 50 coins per US$100 spent (roughly 0.5% back).
- Trains, tours and tickets: earn coins too, at rates shown on the booking page.
Coins land in your account after the trip is completed, not at the moment you pay, so you cannot earn and spend them on the same booking.
3. The member-tier bonus (20% to 200%)
Your Trip.com membership tier multiplies the coins you earn. Gold members get 20% more coins on eligible bookings, and the bonus grows at each tier up to 200% more at Black Diamond. Tiers are based on your number of bookings or your spending over the past 12 months, so frequent travellers climb automatically; there is nothing to apply for.
4. Earn coins without booking: reviews
Writing reviews earns coins as well. Hotel reviews can bring in up to 1,200 coins a month and attraction reviews up to 600. Reviews must be for places you actually visited through Trip.com, and coins from reviews have a shorter life than coins from bookings (see below).
5. When Trip Coins expire
- Coins from bookings: valid for 18 months from the date they are credited.
- Coins from reviews: valid for 6 months.
Your coin balance page shows the expiry date of each batch. If you have coins about to expire and no trip planned, Trip Coins Rewards hotels let you redeem them for extras such as free breakfast, late check-out or a room upgrade.
6. How to actually use them at checkout
- Sign in before you search, so member prices show and the booking earns coins.
- Pick your flight, hotel or train. App-only prices are marked in the results.
- On the payment page, find the Trip Coins line and choose how many to use. Add a promo code in the same step if you have one that applies to your region or card.
- Check the total before you pay.
Is it worth chasing coins?
At 0.15% to 0.5% back, coins alone will not change where you book. They are worth using because they cost nothing, they stack with member and app prices, and the tier bonus grows if you book regularly. Treat them as a small, reliable rebate rather than a discount code.
